The Trust is entering the two challenge boats in the 2009 Small ships race, it will be a great event in its own right, however we will also be using it as a trial for the Tall Ships. The Greenock to Belfast Small Ships Race will take place to coincide with the arrival of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge fleet in Belfast. The fleet are due to gather in Greenock during Saturday 8th August, with shore side activities planned for Sunday. Monday will see the fleet race around the Clyde before attending a crew party that evening. The start of the main race will take place on Tuesday giving the fleet plenty of time to reach Belfast and join their larger friends from the Tall Ships fleet.
In order for these ships to gain the full benefit of their involvement each vessel will need to have a nominated Liaison Officer for the duration of their stay in Greenock.
We are now actively recruiting potential Liaison Officers for the Regatta. We need individuals that are primarily fit, resourceful, reliable, over 18 and able to act on their own initiative. If you think that you could meet this challenge and wish to play a key role in the running of this event in Greenock then please let us have your details.
What does the Job involve?
You will be required to look after your ship operating through the Chief Liaison Officers Organisation for just about every aspect of their visit. It may involve such things as sorting out dock facilities, mail runs, trainee compassionate issues, transportation, attending functions and sports events, handling emergencies, or just about any thing else you can think of.
What is the commitment?
Once you have given us your details we will let you know if you have been selected and we will have a mass briefing for all nominated LO's and Assistant LO's sometime shortly after Easter. We will have a training day where the LO'S will be allocated their ships, information packs distributed and detailed briefings and training will be given.
Most vessels will arrive on Saturday 8th August and we will need LO's to be available until Tuesday 8th August 2009.
If you want to be involved but dont think you can commit to being a liaison officer then still get in contact as you can still be involved.
Thanks
Stuart Simpson
